36 DAYS OF TYPE

This alphabet by Type_AU was an entry in the 36 days of type challenge, an international Instagram challenge that invites artists, animators and designers to submit their interpretations of the alphabet. Participants had to submit a letter every day for 36 consecutive days and stood a chance to get featured on the 36 days of type Instagram feed. In 2019 16000 people participated every day and Type_AU’s 8 was featured.

The intention with this particular alphabet was to explore a new idea with each letter, ranging from geometrical studies to observations on building sites, with an underlying sculptural approach. The result is an eclectic mix of letters that become an expression of Type_AU’s aesthetic sensibility.

Each letter is hand-drawn and painted with ink or watercolour on high quality Fabriano paper and photographed against a colour or material background for the Instagram post.

The body of work was exhibited on a whim in a pop-up exhibition in an empty shop and more than half of the series was sold.
