CONSTRUCT is an unrealized project developed for a group show at Southern Guild Gallery. It is a project based on my ongoing, never-ending fascination with the world of the Building Site. The poetry of these temporary worlds, with materials and forms emerging from the chaos of the construction process, forms the basis of my aesthetic enquiry. The incidental use of scaffolding poles, planks, fluorescent lights, timber sheets and the random storage of mesh cages, db boards, cables, rebar and bricks inspires endless unique combinations of form and material. It is this unintended beauty of accidental combinations that fascinates me. Once these elements are paired with light (sunlight or artificial) another dimension is revealed. I am thrilled by the behind-the-scenes view that a building site offers, into the innards of the unfinished building. From the vastness of open volumes, yet to be refined with cladding and glass, to the claustrophobic caves where workers crouch under glaring floodlights - I find sublime. The intention is to produce luminaires that distil this visual reference and capture the essence of the Building Site. Some objects will seem as if they still inhabit the site while others could look like machinery and equipment. The focus of my creative exploration will be the relationships between form, material and light.

Excerpts from the concept presentation are shown here.
